Los Angeles Ballet Academy’s Summer Intensive program offers extended, intensive dance training during the summer, focusing on classical ballet, with supplemental classes such as contemporary, jazz, and conditioning. We are proud to feature guest faculty from around the world, who bring their expertise in a broad range of dance disciplines to our program.
Summer Intensive runs for 4 weeks, beginning the first full week after July 4th. We offer flexible scheduling where dancers are welcome to take 1, 2, 3, or all 4 weeks.

REQUIREMENT FOR IN-PERSON AUDITION:
- Pre-registration is required
- Pre-registration will close the Thursday before the day of audition
- If you have missed the pre-registration cut-off date please contact us at 818-382-2500 to see if there is space available for walk-ins.
WHAT TO BRING:
- All students who have pre-registered and paid online only need to bring a 4×6 headshot in ballet hairstyle and appropriate dance shoes (ballet and jazz shoes for all dancers, pointe shoes for dancers age 12+ if applicable).
- Students age 12+ should also bring a picture in first arabesque (ladies on pointe, if applicable)
WHAT TO WEAR:
- Female students should wear a black leotard with pink or skin-toned tights and pink or skin-toned ballet shoes. Hair should be pulled back neatly into a ballet bun.
- Dancers age 12+ who are one pointe should bring their pointe shoes.
- Male students should wear a white leotard or shirt with black or grey tights and black or white ballet shoes. Hair should be brushed back neatly and off the face.
- All dancers should also bring jazz shoes if they have them.
WALK-UP REGISTRATION:
Students who secure a walk-up audition spot should bring the following:
- Completed and signed the Audition Form
- Cash or credit card for audition fee ($35)
- 4×6 headshot with ballet hairstyle
- Students age 12+ should also bring a picture in first arabesque (ladies on pointe, if applicable)
- Students age 12+ should bring pointe shoes, if applicable.
VIDEO AUDITION
REQUIREMENTS FOR VIDEO AUDITIONS:
Video auditions will be accepted on an ongoing basis, as space permits. However, we strongly urge students to submit their video audition by February 23, 2024.

VIDEO AUDITION CONTENT:
Video auditions must be no longer than 10 minutes.
Students age 12+ should include the following:
- barre exercises (one side only)
- center practice: adage, pirouettes, grand allegro, and petit allegro
- pointe work (where applicable): include barre and center exercises, including pirouettes
- Optional: one variation in practice clothes
Students age 7-11 are only required to demonstrate combinations done in their regular classical ballet class.
LABA students currently enrolled in RAD or ISTD Classical Ballet: please only submit your headshot (and arabesque picture if applicable). You will be evaluated in class in lieu of a video submission.
DECISIONS + ENROLLMENT
AUDITION RESULTS:
Audition results and admissions emails are typically emailed to students within 2 weeks of the audition date.
PROGRAM ENROLLMENT, TUITION + FEES:
- Audition Fee: $35
- Tuition for 1 week: $700.00
- Tuition for 2 weeks: $1,400.00
- Tuition for 3 weeks: $2,050.00 (multi-week discount of $50)
- Tuition for 4 weeks: $2,700.00 (multi-week discount of $100)
A completed Registration packet and deposit of $200 per week is required by April 26, 2024 to hold a student’s spot in the program, with the remaining balance due by June 7, 2024.
A late fee of $75 will be charged for tuition payments received on or after May 15, 2024.
Deposits and tuitions are non-refundable even in the event of a student’s withdrawal or dismissal from the program before it has begun. LABA does not offer any tuition refunds for missed classes.
SCHOLARSHIP + TUITION ASSISTANCE:
A limited number for scholarships and financial assistance are granted to admitted students.
Once admitted to the program, students may submit an email to request a tuition assistance application. Information will be included in the registration packet.
Scholarship and financial aid awards are based on both need and merit.
*Most scholarship awards cover only a portion of tuition.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I DO NOT LIVE IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA. CAN I STILL ATTEND?
Yes. We have hosted students from across California, nationally, and even internationally. All students are welcome to attend. However, for those living further away, please be mindful of any current travel orders and/or restrictions.
IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT FOR PARTICIPATING?
We accept students as young as 7 years old into our Program. They must, however, be 7 years old by the start of the program and have at least one year of ballet training.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH AGE GROUP AUDITION TO ATTEND?
Dancers should attend the audition for the age group that corresponds to their age at the time of the audition.
WHAT IF I AM NOT ABLE TO ATTEND THE AUDITION?
Students who are unable to attend the scheduled audition can submit a video audition. Please see the above section regarding video auditions.
IS THERE A DISADVANTAGE TO AUDITIONING BY VIDEO?
While an in-person audition is preferred, there are no disadvantages to auditioning by video. Students are held to the same standards whether auditioning in-person or by video.
DO I NEED TO SUBMIT A PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOT?
No. Your headshot does not need to be taken by a professional. But we do ask that the student be clearly recognizable in the photo as it will be used by our artistic staff to identify students during the admissions consideration process.

IF I AM ACCEPTED, CAN I REQUEST AN EXTENSION TO HOLD MY SPOT?
Registration for our Summer Intensive program is on a first come-first served basis and will close once classes have reached capacity. Students wishing to attend the program that have missed the registration deadline may be placed on a waiting list.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO ATTEND ONLY SOME WEEKS?
Yes. Our Summer Intensive structure allows for flexibility to accommodate the full and varied schedules of our dancers. Students may choose 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks, selecting whichever combination of week(s) work best for them. (e.g. a dancer may choose to attend only Weeks 1 and 4, etc.).
